Lambs progress in the Emirates FA Cup after replay win

September 6, 2017 News

The Lambs’ journey in the Emirates FA Cup is set to continue following a sterling performance last night at Taunton Town FC.

Achieving a 2-1 win, with goals from Grant and Brown, against the Southern Football League Division One South West side, who are currently top of their table, means Tavistock AFC has secured a place in the Second Qualifying Round of the 2017/18 Emirates FA Cup.

This is the first time Tavistock AFC has got to this stage in 62 years.

The Lambs will now host Frome Town FC, who play in the Southern Football League Premier Divison, at Langsford Park on Saturday 16 September.

“As I said on Saturday, this is about belief,” said Stuart Henderson, Manager of Tavistock AFC. “I’m delighted with the attitude and desire that the players showed. We started the game well and I felt we caused them problems every time we moved forward.

“To be 2-0 within half an hour put us in a good position and felt our two centre halves, Dan Evans and Warren Daw, were tremendous in dealing with the aerial threats that Taunton possessed.

“Both before the game and during half time we talked about desire and belief and about doing the right things. We anticipated having to soak up pressure – and that’s exactly what we did, as they scored just before the hour. It gave Taunton the impetus and they did put a number of balls into the box. However, we remained strong and always looked dangerous with Ben Cross hitting the post and Josh Robins flashing a ball across the six yard box. Despite Taunton pressure – there were unable to create many clear cut chances.

“Now we build on this, ready for our FA Vase fixture at the weekend and looking forward to next Saturday when we meet Frome at home.

“I would like to thank all our fans who travelled to Taunton, and the Taunton fans who were very gracious in defeat. As a Club, we have been overwhelmed by the masses of support being shown to us, both on social media and at the games. Thank you to you all.

“I am delighted and proud of the players and how far we have come as a group.”

  1. I was quite taken with the Tavostock AFC team performance on Saturday. I live in Liskeard and saw your team for the first time when you played Bodmin at home at the end of last season to clinch the title.

I saw you again at Bodmin a couple of weeks ago and was impressed with your win. Your defence has been outstanding in all three matches – especially No.4. They were not daunted by the physical nature of Taunton’s approach to the game.

When I first saw Jack Crago last season I was unsure of his contribution to the team effort. I thought ‘green boots’ what is all that about? But he has won me over with his athleticism, his ability to turn a defender and his ‘eye for goal’. I think you have a marvellous ‘holder up of the ball’ in your number 9. A wise head on ‘old shoulders’ – he must have played in a higher level of football at the some time?
