The Lambs produced a top quality performance to defeat Southern League side Tiverton. The game got off to a fast start with the home team being denied from taking the lead when visiting keeper Gibson made a good save deny Glynn Hobbs, following good work by Jack Crago.
Tiverton’s first penetrating attack saw Jack Oak make a fine save to deny Landricombe from scoring. Back came the Lambs, Crago’s pace on the left flank resulted in him producing a great cross, but Jack Bird’s shot flew inches wide of the target.
In the 10th minute a great pass from Rosenquest found Crago in the penalty area, where he was pulled down by a defender but Glynn Hobbs fired the resulting penalty kick wide of the target.
Four minutes later the home team opened the scoring when a poor goal kick fell to Glynn Hobbs, who made no mistake and fired home from twenty yards. The Lambs were now playing some delightful football, a great move with Rogers, Crago, and Krac saw Hobbs shot hit the post.
Oak was then called upon to make a good save as he pushed a shot from Duff around the post in the 25th minute. Crago then had a shot cleared off the goal line by Kingdom. On the half hour the Lambs doubled their advantage when a great run by Crago into the penalty area, beating three defenders before slotting the ball into the net from twelve yards.
Five minutes later the home team made it three when Crago and Hobbs set up Steve Rogers who hit an unstoppable thunderbolt from twenty five yards into the top corner of the net.
Tiverton reduced the deficit a minute before the interval, when the home side failed to see the danger from a set piece allowing Landricombe to score from close range.
The visitors made a strong start in the half with Williams shooting wide when well placed. Jack Oak then made a great save to deny Williams in the 51st minute. The Lambs increased their lead five minutes later when another fine move put Shane Krac in on goal he thumped the ball past Gibson low into the corner of the net.
Tiverton were now having their best period in the game, as the home team were finding it difficult to push forward losing their composure on the ball. On the hour Landricombe got his second of the evening following a free kick.
Five minutes later Jack Oak made a great double save to the visitors from reducing the arrears. The home team weathered the storm and got their passing game back into action. In the 69th minute Hobbs set up Shepherd, but he shot over the bar from twelve yards. Shepherd then became provider his great run and cross set up Shane Krac but he shot over from ten yards. Manager Stuart Henderson made substitutions with goal keeper Jack Ord replacing the excellent Oak. Ord made a good save to deny Landricombe from scoring.
In the 80th minute a great passing move split the visitors defence open, Hobbs was in on goal, he calmly rounded the keeper and stroke the ball into the net. In the dying minutes another terrific passing move down the left with Josh Robins cutting in from the by line, his pass found Rosenquest, who’s shot hit the bar, the ball fell to Robins who thundered the ball home to complete the scoring.
This was a terrific performance by the Lambs, who fully deserved their convincing victory. Apart from a twenty minute spell at the start of the second half, they had control of the game. Some of the pass and move football they produced was of a very high standard, and very pleasing to the eye. Manager Stuart Henderson must be delighted with the way things are developing as the season is nearly upon us.
