Under 21’s in the Mist

The Lambs under 21 side travelled to Budleigh Salterton last night for the semi-final of the inaugural SWPL U21 cup, but what promised to be a cracking game was spoilt by the mist which rolled in before half time.
The team, made up of an exciting mix of players from across all the Tavistock sides, started brightly putting Budleigh under pressure from the off with quick movement, positive passing and obvious desire. With several chances made but not taken, it seemed only a matter of time before the ball would be in the back of the net and that duly arrived with a cracking left foot shot from Rosser-Lewis which gave the goalie no chance.
This seemed to stir the Budleigh side into action and they took control of the game putting the Tavistock side under pressure with long range passes and clever runs which for the most part were contained by the defence but in the end the ball went in off the post to make it 1-1.
The mist had started to take effect before the half time whistle but once the daylight had gone and the floodlights took over the visibility was reduced even further and the game was halted with only an hour played as the linesman couldn’t make out the players. A quick change of the Tavistock shirts from the away pink to a borrowed Budleigh white, didn’t make any difference and the game was abandoned.
Thanks to Budleigh Salterton for the hospitality after the game and to Phil Hiscox the League Secretary,for making the quick arrangements allowing the teams reconvene at a neutral venue half way between the two clubs on Thursday 19th.
