Match Preview: Yate Town vs Tavistock AFC
Tavistock looking to bounce back after eight match unbeaten league run comes to an end.
A defeat in our last match against Evesham United on Saturday 25th November ended The Lambs impressive run of eight Southern League Division One South matches without defeat. An away day to Worcestershire saw a 3-1 defeat against a very good Evesham United side. With our scheduled home match last weekend against Malvern Town falling foul to a frozen pitch The Lambs will be looking to bounce back when we again travel up the M5 to play against Yate Town.
This won’t be the first fixture between the two sides this season after having met back in September in the FA Trophy. A much warmer day back on Saturday 9th September saw two late goals by Tavistock which saw us claim our first win in all competitions this season and really helped kickstart our season after a slower start than usual. Goals from Owen Pritchard and Jacob Bowker earned The Lambs a 2-0 away at The South West Interiors Stadium which saw our opponents change managers with captain Darren Mullings being appointed as first team manager.
After being relegated from step 3 last season, it would be fair to suggest that this season hasn’t quite gone to plan for The Bluebells. The Gloucestershire side have currently 12 points (3 wins, 3 draws and 7 defeats) from their 13 matches this season and currently sit in 16th position, 6 points above the relegation spot. With no wins in their last three matches, make no doubt that our opponents will be looking to end their winless run when they welcome us on Saturday. With just two wins at home this season (against Westbury United and Exmouth Town) it will hopefully give The Lambs reasonable optimism approaching the game and bounce back from the defeat against Evesham United.
Despite the form table not looking too great, taking away a 5-1 home defeat against the already mentioned impressive Evesham United, the form is much improved since Mullings took over. High scoring wins against Melksham Town and Exmouth Town, a narrow defeat to league leaders Wimborne and a point on the road against play-off chasers Bideford make for much better reading and show that they aren’t doing as badly as the league table might suggest on an initial glance.
